Which vs What

This I found at first glance inside an English grammar book.

“Which girls/books did you like, or what girls/books did you like?”

Use which when the choice must be made from a previously specified, usually limited number of objects. Use what when the choice is from an unknown number of objects. A more vague what question is typically followed by a similarly vague answer.
